Calendar of the Deployment

This is a place to start to relive the deployment. Each month has a small descriptoi of the events of that month, click on the month to see what happened day by day. This way you can get a feeling for what happened on what day and how it affected us on the deployment.

September 2002

I get the alert call that I've been activated. Probably one of the most depressing things a 22 year old can hear.

October 2002

This month is spent getting things ready for a one year absence.

November 2002

We're deployed. The first two weeks are spent waiting for a flight out of Germany, next two are spent in Camp Doha.

December 2002

After spending another two weeks in Camp Doha the Army realizes we're supposed to be in Camp Arifjan so we move again.

January 2003

Turns out Arifjan is alot more comfortable than Doha, Christmas to the outbreak of war is thought of as the good times of the deployment.

February 2003

Already homesick we start making bets on when we'll go home, somewhere a rumor got started that it will only be a six month deployment.

March 2003

My birthday is spent playing Xbox in our tent. Arifjan quadruples in size, during the third week everybody disappears, then the War starts.

April 2003

A busy month, we never spend more that a couple weeks at any one place. We visit the Kabals, Camp Coyote, and end the month in Tallil Airbase. The beginning of May signals the beginning of the hot season and we have no A/C

May 2003

We move up to Scandia, a way-station on the way to Baghdad, We have a tent but that's about it. Since we never have anything to do we become tourists befriending Iraqis and seeing the local sights. Rumors of going home fly fast, each day were "supposed" to go home comes and goes with no news.

June 2003

After the first week of June we find ourselves on our way home! Then we get stuck back at Tallil for a month waiting on an email!!!

The Army is the worst bureaucracy

July 2003

We find out why it's taking so long, the Army didn't know we were out here we weren't in the computers, they forgot about us.

To say we're pissed off now is the understatement of the year.

We finally get to Doha at the end of the month. I make full use of the swimming pool.

August 2003

By the beginning of August were ready to go home we just need a ship for our equipment.

Halfway through August we get back to the States!!! It doesn't matter what happens now, were home.

September 2003

September is my first month home, I kick it of going to GOX and heading down to Vegas with Layton and Hansen. Life is good

October 2003

I'm back to normal, the deployment is like a bad dream, I don't even believe I was really there.
